Critics panned it when it was originally released, and fellow ex-Beatle members dismissed its musical merits. Yet thankfully – and not surprisingly, over 40 years since its debut, McCartney fans are treated to a wonderful re-issue of the endlessly fun “Ram” in almost every format imaginable (release was in May of 2012). Of course, we at Spin-Clean have been enjoying the vinyl stereo release, showcasing Paul’s amazing collection of pure pop delights on 180 grams of gloriously remastered 2-channel vinyl.
The stereo LP really has a wonderfully warm, well-rounded sound, with just the right amount of bottom coupled with a bit more mid-range and unquestionably more brilliant highs than we’ve heard in previous iterations of the release. Simply put, “Ram” is loads of pop fun and a must-own if you’re a McCartney fan.
41 years later, our favorite tracks remain: “Too Many People” and “Eat At Home” (and how can your heart not be warmed with the ever-familiar “Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey”).
And while we’re enjoying the stereo LP set and its bonus tracks, we’re wondering: have any of you purchased the mono LP? If so, what do you think? We’ve heard about its overall “punchier” feel, with lower backing vocals and even some fades in different places on certain songs. But we’re interested in your thoughts.
